A full-day workshop focused on structured literacy will be offered at four locations throughout Kansas.
These professional learning opportunities will be led by Hailey Hawkinson, a second-grade teacher and Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) Teacher Leader Consultant.
During the workshop – titled “Structured Literacy: The 90-Minute Block Party” - participants will explore the vital elements for structure literacy instruction rooted in The Science of Reading; discover ways to implement these elements; and examine the time structure within the block.
The target audience is K-2/3. Participants will bring along their literacy curriculum and a list of programs/materials for use in their district. We will be exploring structured literacy elements within your curriculum/materials to highlight "non-negotiables" and gaps within the curriculum.
