KSDE's conference celebrates art of teaching

More than 300 educators made their way to Wichita this week for the Kansas State Department of Education's Great Ideas in Education Conference: The Art of Teaching.

The annual conference started at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, with an opening celebration and a variety of learning sessions to choose from. There also were exhibitors to visit throughout the day and a keynote presentation, "Uncommon Sense, Uncommon Success: Turning Any High-Poverty School into a High-Performing School," by William Parret and Kathleen Budge.

Kansas Commissioner of Education Dr. Randy Watson kicked off Thursday with a keynote session, "Kansans Can: Celebrating the Success of Our School Districts and Challenges for the Future." Thursday afternoon's keynote, "Standing Tall Through It All," was given by Steven Bollar.

Attendees spent time Thursday afternoon in discussions with their peers and also were able to focus on leadership.

Friday's keynote presentation will be by Dr. Rosemarie Allen. There also is a special event celebrating teachers to close out this year's conference.
