Reminder: Kansas Clean Diesel Program funding available for school buses

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) currently has a school bus award opportunity open to districts that own and operate their own transportation fleets.

One older model diesel-powered school bus is required to be decommissioned for every new school bus awarded through the Kansas program, up to five school buses.

Diesel-powered school buses with engine model years 2009 and older are eligible for funding.

To be eligible for funding, the existing certified highway engine/vehicle must have accumulated at least 7,000 miles per year during the two years prior to upgrade.

New bus(es) that are diesel, alternate-fuel and battery electric are eligible for an award from KDHE.

KDHE anticipates a 25% reimbursement for new buses purchased. Also, KDHE anticipates projects involving new buses that are battery electric will receive 45% reimbursement.

State (Kansas) funding cannot be stacked with federal (EPA) funding for the same bus, per state and federal requirements. Awards cannot be processed if the order for the bus(es) has already been placed by the school district.

School districts must submit their applications via e-mail no later than 5 p.m. CST, on Feb. 10. Click the following link for the application process and more information:
