Child Nutrition and Wellness kicks off Kansas Harvest of the Month

Child Nutrition and Wellness is excited to launch the Kansas Harvest of the Month program, a celebration of Kansas grown commodities, in October.

School nutrition programs are encouraged to serve the featured food in their menus. Resource toolkits will be provided this fall to facilitate the program which will include posters, stickers, static clings and downloadable materials available at cnw.ksde.org. The CNW website will also have table tents, STEM curriculum for pre-K through fifth-grade, social media graphics, morning announcement scripts and newsletters.

The calendar for 2024-2025 includes:

  • January - Beef
  • February - Sweet potatoes
  • March - Pork
  • April - Leafy greens
  • May - Berries
  • June - Cucumbers
  • July - Wheat/grains
  • August - Melons
  • September - Tomatoes
  • October - Apples
  • November - Pumpkins
  • December - Dairy

Over the next year, the Child Nutrition and Wellness program plans to complete testing of local food recipes that will be provided as part of the program. Correlating the sixth- through 12th-grade curriculum with each month’s featured item is also underway.
