Engaging with families to build strong relationships during children’s transition into kindergarten is a key strategy to prepare children, families and schools for a successful start to the kindergarten year.  

All Kansas elementary schools are required to partner with families to complete the Ages & Stages Questionnaires®, Third Edition (ASQ-3) and Ages & Stages Questionnaires®: Social-Emotional, Second Edition (ASQ:SE-2). These tools provide a snapshot of children’s developmental milestones. KSDE has released new reports so schools can review Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot participation data and results. These reports are available in a new KSDE web application, “Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot.”  

To register, a user with district-level or building-level access will log in to https://apps.ksde.org/authentication/login.aspx and select the blue “Manage My Account” button. The user will scroll to “Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot,” check the checkbox on the left, and select the desired level of access. The user will then scroll to the bottom of the page and select “Submit” to request access.  

Schools can review their 2023-24 data at this time. 2024-2025 data will be available following the Sept. 27, 2024, deadline for schools to finalize data in the ASQ Online system. 

Each year, KSDE pulls data from the ASQ Online system following the submission deadline. This data is then matched to ENRL (Sept. 20) records submitted by schools. Schools can take the following steps to improve the accuracy of their data:  

• Include the State Student Identifier (SSID/KIDS ID) in the ASQ Online “Alt. ID” field of a child profile.  
• Ensure ASQ Online child profile data matches data reported in the ENRL/KIDS Data Collection System. 
• Prevent duplicate child profiles in the ASQ Online (Review the ASQ Online Quick Tips: How to Prevent Duplicate Child Profiles fact sheet). 

Please make sure schools have reviewed all questionnaires fsubmitted by families in spring 2024. Timely follow-up ensures information shared by families is relevant and demonstrates to families their time is valuable. KSDE expects schools that begin screening in the springtime will accept the screening results in ASQ Online and follow up with the family within two weeks of completing the ASQ to provide results and learning activities. Log in to ASQ Online and run a “Pending Family Access Screenings” report to double-check if any pending screenings need review. Select “My Profile” and then “My Alerts” to turn on automatic email notifications when new screenings arrive.  

Kansas accreditation regulations (K.A.R. 91-31-32) require each education system seeking accreditation have in place a method of data collection approved by the Kansas State Board of Education for collecting kindergarten-entry data.  

• A system will be “in compliance” if 50% or more of incoming kindergarten students complete both the ASQ-3 and the ASQ:SE-2. 
• A system will be “working towards compliance” if between 25% and 50% of incoming kindergarten students complete both the ASQ-3 and the ASQ:SE-2. 
• A system will be “not in compliance” if less than 25% of incoming kindergarten students complete both the ASQ-3 and the ASQ:SE-2. 

In order to be eligible to apply for Kansans Can Star Recognition in the area of Kindergarten Readiness, at least 50% of kindergarten students in each building that offers kindergarten must participate in the Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot, the ASQ-3 and ASQ: SE-2.
