Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) counselor leader coordinators have scheduled a variety of professional development opportunities for school counselors throughout November and December.
Events include Coffee with Counselors; trainings on the KSDE Suicide Prevention, Intervention, Reintegration and Postvention Toolkit; training on AI counseling tools; updates on Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); and more.

KSDE counselor leader coordinators are Mallory Jacobs, Whitson Elementary School, Topeka Unified School District 501; Hanna Mick, Indian Hills Elementary School, Auburn-Washburn USD 437; Melanie D. Scott; School Mental Health Project ECHO specialty team member; and Nick Brummet, Clay Center Middle School, Clay County USD 379.
School counselor leader coordinators at KSDE play a pivotal role in supporting counselors throughout the state by offering training and facilitating the adoption of best practices to ensure that students receive the best possible guidance and support.
The school counselor leader coordinators also have created a 2023 KSDE School Counselor Resources Padlet that includes PDFs of presentations, resources relevant to school counselors and education and more. It can be accessed here.
