The Kansas State Department of Education’s Child Nutrition and Wellness (CNW) team is offering you a firsthand look at Kansas farms as part of the Farm to Plate program.
Tour participants will ride on a bus to visit farms and hear from food partners about sourcing Kansas products. Sponsors attending the tours will receive education, resources, networking and inspiration to incorporate local products into Child Nutrition Program menus.
The farm tours are free to attend and will take place in the northeastern, south central and northwestern regions of Kansas. A free local foods lunch will be served at an area school as part of the tour.
Northeast Kansas: Begins and ends in Lawrence. 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 29. The tour will include Juniper Hill Farms (Lawrence), Lawrence Unified School District 497’s gardens and JET Produce and Meats (Leavenworth). A local lunch will be provided by Lawrence USD 497 with a lunch presentation from the KC Food Hub.
South central Kansas: Begins and ends in Haven. 8 a.m.-4:15 p.m. Oct. 6. The tour will include Teck Farms (Hutchinson), Basinger’s Beef (Pretty Prairie), Pretty Prairie USD 311’s farm and Eck Agriculture (Kingman). A local lunch will be provided by Pretty Prairie USD 311 with a lunch presentation from the Stafford County Flour Mill.
Northwest Kansas: Begins and ends in Hoxie. 8 a.m.-3:15 p.m. Oct. 13. The tour will include a wheat/sorghum producer (Grainfield), 4B Farms (Grinnell) and M Arrow Ranch (Colby). A local lunch will be provided by Colby USD 315.
