During the May 2023 Kansas State Board of Education meeting, amendments to regulations governing the use of Emergency Safety Interventions were approved by State Board members.
During a presentation, the Kansas State Department of Education announced the creation of a seclusion evaluation tool. The purpose of this tool is to help educators work through various scenarios to determine whether interventions taken during an event result in the seclusion of a student.
The new seclusion evaluation tool can be found here. This tool and other tools are housed on the ESI portion of the KSDE website at Emergency Safety Interventions (ESI) (ksde.org).
