July teacher workshop will look at benefits of effective arts inclusion across content areas

A teacher workshop scheduled for July 27-28 will allow attendees to investigate the pedagogical benefits of effective arts include across content areas while addressing deeper learning opportunities, fostering curiosity and exploring ways for increasing student engagement.

“The Colors of Nature: Investigating the Interactions of Science and Art” will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 27-28 at the McPherson Opera House, 219 S. Main, in McPherson.

The workshop is funded by The Norene Ketcherside Endowment for Fine Arts.

While the workshop is designed for K-8 classroom teachers, participation is best experienced in partnership with another content teacher, such as art or science. Through a series of investigations, participants will become familiar with the core practices of science, math and art to develop scientific and artistic habits of mind that empower engagement in self-directed inquiry.
