17: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. 2023-2024 School Year Kick-Off Event for Jump Start Your Success in School Nutrition Programs. Jump Start offers a blend of in-person, live virtual, on-demand and personalized training opportunities for new and aspiring school food service directors and managers. 17: Registration deadline for Fort Hays State University’s Introduction to Restorative Practices and Using Circles Effectively. The workshop will take place via Zoom from noon to 2 p.m. July 25-26. 19: 9 a.m.-noon, Kansas State Department of Education and the Kansas Highway Patrol are partnering for Reasonable Suspicion Training for commercial driver’s license supervisors. 19: 1:30-2:30 p.m., Star Early Literacy 101, virtual. Learn what Star Early Literacy is, why it should be administered and how to leverage it as a universal screener. Also learn how the Star scale connects student test performance to learning progressions, resources, Kansas standards and other scores. Administer the Star Early Literacy test with fidelity. 20-21: #EpicEducators23 Summer Retreat, Alvin E. Morris Administrative Center, 903 South Edgemoor St. in Wichita. Keynote speakers are Dr. Richard Villa (“Differentiated Instruction”) and Dr. Mary Kaye Siebert (“Courage to Teach” facilitator). There is a $25 registration cost. 24: 9-11 a.m., FastBridge Essentials: Progress Monitoring Day 1. Virtual. Get started with a quick tour of how to navigate the FastBridge system and then dive into assessments you can use to progress monitor students: CBM Automatically, CBM Reading and Early Reading Nonsense Words. Register here.

25: 9-11 a.m., FastBridge Essentials: Progress Monitoring Day 2, virtual. Learn how to select students for monitoring, set up progress monitoring groups, choose the details needed for each group’s schedule, how to indicate the specific intervention, and where to go to conduct the monitoring. Use the Individual Progress Monitoring Report, such as the trend, goal and projection lines, as well as specific student errors, in order to interpret the data, evaluate intervention effectiveness and intensify interventions. 27: 9-11 a.m., FastBridge Lightning Round, virtual. A space for collaboration, resources and to ask FastBridge questions, exclusively for Kansas educators. Register here.

27-28: 12-13: 9 a.m.-noon, KSDE and Phenomenon Elementary Science Education virtual training. This is a repeated session. There will be approximately two hours of additional asynchronous engagement before, during and after the training. Applicants will be asked to commit to engaging during this time. College credit is optional, and certificates of professional learning will be provided. There is no cost to participants. Participants will be confirmed via email by May 15th and kits of materials will be shipped to the addresses provided below. 27-28: 9 a.m.-4 p.m., The Colors of Nature: Investigating the Interactions of Science and Art, McPherson Opera House, 219 S. Main in McPherson. Through a series of investigations, participants will become familiar with the core practices of science, math and art to develop scientific and artistic habits of mind that empower engagement in self-directed inquiry. Registrations received by July 22 will be eligible for a classroom grant of up to $150 from the Norene Ketcherside Endowment Fund for Fine Arts.
