Preparing for the Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot

Engaging families as children transition into kindergarten supports kindergarten readiness and later student success. All children are ready to enter kindergarten when they meet the age requirement – 5 years old on or before Aug. 31 of their kindergarten year.

The Ages & Stages Questionnaires®, Third Edition (ASQ-3) and Ages & Stages Questionnaires®: Social-Emotional, Second Edition (ASQ®:SE-2) create the opportunity to better understand students' development and social-emotional well-being. The snapshot data helps schools prepare to support the social, emotional and academic success of each student.

All Kansas elementary schools are required to partner with families of incoming kindergarten students to complete the Kansas Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot (the ASQ-3 and the ASQ:SE-2) by Sept. 20, 2022. All data (including pending Family Access screenings) must be submitted in ASQ Online by Oct. 10, 2022.

Please make sure your school is kindergarten ready for the 2022-2023 school year! The following resources may be helpful:

  • - The website agesandstages.com/ks includes online training modules, quick-reference guides for administrators and teachers, “how-to” videos, and the 2022-2023 Kansas Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot Fact Sheet.

  • - Make sure you know who your program users are and confirm that they are able to log in to asqonline.com. Each district designates a district Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot coordinator while submitting updates in the KSDE Directory Updates authenticated application. Note that each building’s existing ASQ Online Program Administrators can assign Provider and Program Administrator log-in credentials to teachers and other administrators.

  • - KSDE has created a resource to use as you introduce the ASQ. Feel welcome to use this letter to families from Kansas Commissioner of Education Dr. Randy Watson (in English and in Spanish). You can also use this language to create a message of your own, signed by someone from your district. The letter can be found at the bottom of the home page on the Ages and Stages Kansas website, under the “Initiative Resources” tab.

  • - All Kansas ASQ Online users will receive five email newsletters from our partners at Brookes Publishing during the Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot window. These will include helpful resources and timely reminders. Click here to register if you aren't a Kansas ASQ Online user but would like to receive these newsletters.

If you have questions, please contact:
