This week, Kansas Ages & Stages Questionnaires (ASQ) Online users received the third installment of Kansas Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot News and Updates, a five-part guide to a successful start to the kindergarten year.  

Each edition provides resources to guide Kansas educators through each step of the Ages & Stages Questionnaires® (ASQ) screening process. If you are not a Kansas ASQ Online user, you can visit agesandstages.com/ks to sign up for these emails and to view past newsletters. Remember: the KSDEweekly article Ensure your school is ready for the 2023-2024 Kansas Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot includes key dates and helpful tips as you prepare for the coming school year. 

Resources shared this week include: 

• The article Success After Screening: Best practices for better follow-up outlines strategies to share results with families, determine the type of follow-up needed and manage next steps. School districts should also consider their existing processes for using screening data to inform evaluations, implement interventions and make referrals to building Student Improvement Teams. 
• The tip sheet ASQ-Online-Quick-Tips-Prevent-Duplicate-Child-Profiles.pdf (agesandstages.com) describes how to accept Family Access screenings in ASQ Online so that there is just one child profile for each child. This will help users more easily manage data in ASQ Online.  
• The tip sheet ASQ Online Quick Tips: Printing Information Summaries for Multiple Students outlines steps to save time and print completed information summaries for multiple students at once. This resource provides a complete summary of the questionnaire information, results, overall concerns and follow-up actions.  
• The handouts Sharing Screening Results with Families offer practical tips for sharing ASQ-3 and ASQ:SE-2 results to help answer questions and put families at ease.  
• ASQ Parent Conference forms (available in multiple languages) feature conversation guidelines and are the ideal tool for navigating post-screening conversations with families. 
• Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot Summary sheets provide a quick description of a child’s ASQ results, along with an explanation of the scores and recommended follow-up actions.  

 
Families completing questionnaires is just the first step in a successful Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot - the way that you follow up to discuss results creates a great opportunity for your school to build and strengthen relationships with families. We hope that these tips and resources help you think about the ways you can partner with families so that they are ready for the kindergarten year ahead. 

When families take the time to share this information, following up in a timely way helps show that you value their time and input. Turning on Family Access Alerts (in ASQ Online under My Profile/My Alerts) can help you make sure that you don’t miss any Family Access screenings submitted throughout the year.
