Kansas Education Data System (KEDS) takes next step

The Kansas Education Data System (KEDS) production environment is ready, according to KSDE Information Technology staff.

Student Information System (SIS) vendors have been made aware and those who are certified will begin the process of onboarding their districts with KSDE. Certification involves a live transfer of data from the SIS to the KSDE test environment where KSDE IT staff can validate all expected data elements are coming through appropriately. The fully certified vendors are EduConnect, goedustar/Harris Education Solutions, Infinite Campus and Pearson. Partially certified vendors are PowerSchool, Edupoint and Skyward.

Onboarding to KEDS will be done in phases. KSDE has requested each SIS vendor start with two to three districts depending on the district size and their customer base. Once these districts are successfully connected, KSDE IT staff will work with the vendors to bring on more districts with the goal of having all public districts connected by this March.

It is important to note this will be a parallel system and the Kansas Individual Data on Students (KIDS) system will remain the official source for student data for the rest of the 2024-25 school year.

Upon successful connection from their SIS to the KEDS system, districts will receive instructions on how to obtain access to the new data validation portal that also rolls out as a part of KEDS. This portal is where KSDE plans to implement data validation dashboards.

Next, KSDE IT staff will incorporate some prototypes and begin discussions with focus groups to get feedback on designing dashboards that are most beneficial for districts.
