Printed Kansas Early Learning Standards have begun arriving in districts

The KSDE Early Childhood Team is excited to announce 6,551 hard copies of the recently updated Kansas Early Learning Standards (KELS) have begun arriving in districts.

The Kansas Early Learning Standards provide information regarding what young children birth through kindergarten should know and be able to do as a result of engagement with caring knowledgeable adults, evidence-based curriculum, and developmentally appropriate activities.

This past spring, districts were asked to complete a survey indicating the number of copies the district needed and to whom they should be shipped. For districts that didn’t complete the survey, an estimate was made as to how many would be needed based on the size of the district.

If your district doesn’t receive a shipment within the next couple of weeks, contact Natalie McClane to find out where the printed KELS were shipped. We will also have a limited number of the standards printed in Spanish. Contact Natalie McClane, nmcclane@ksde.org, if you need this version of the KELS.

If you would like to order additional copies of the Kansas Early Learning Standards, an order form will soon be added to the kels.ksde.org website. This website also has resources related to the KELS including training, crosswalks and alignments, and other resources. New items are being added to this site regularly.

Contact Natalie McClane, nmcclane@ksde.org, with questions.
