Partnering with Kansas families to complete the Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot

On Aug. 7, Kansas Ages & Stages Questionnaires® (ASQ®) Online users received the second installment of Kansas Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot News & Updates, a five-part guide to a successful start to the kindergarten year.

Each edition provides proven resources to guide Kansas educators through each step of the Ages & Stages Questionnaires® (ASQ®) screening process. If you are not a Kansas ASQ Online user, you can visit https://agesandstages.com/ks to sign up for these emails and to view past newsletters.

  • The “9 Creative Ways to Boost Completion Rates” Tip Sheet shares ideas to encourage families to return completed questionnaires in a timely manner.
  • New reports are available in a new KSDE web application, “Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot.” Schools can review their 2023–24 Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot participation rate data at this time.
  • The “Introducing ASQ-3 and ASQ:SE-2 to Families” Tip Sheets provide suggested sample scripts for educators to use when introducing the questionnaires to parents and families so that they are well prepared to complete the Snapshot.
  • KSDE provides a message to Kansas families from Dr. Randy Watson, Kansas Commissioner of Education, introducing the Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot. This message is available in English and in Spanish on agesandstages.com/ks under “Initiative Resources.” Feel welcome to use this letter in your communications with families, or to adapt this language for a message of your own.

Visit agesandstages.com/ks for Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), guides and “how-to” videos on how to implement ASQ.

Remember: To advance kindergarten readiness, all Kansas elementary schools are required to partner with families to better understand incoming kindergarten students’ development. The 2024 Snapshot window closes Sept. 20. Schools should administer both the ASQ-3 and ASQ:SE-2 questionnaires to all incoming kindergarten students by Sept. 20. All data (including pending Family Access screenings and finalized manual screenings) must be entered in ASQ Online by Sept. 27.
