Virtual Wellness Workshops offered in February – Wellness Wednesdays

Join the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) each Wednesday in February for Wellness Wednesdays via Zoom to assist Kansas schools in implementing wellness policies and creating a healthier school environment. 

Each Wednesday in February a one-hour virtual session will be offered at 9:30 a.m. using this link https://ksde.zoom.us/j/81862066065?pwd=VFAySXJxL0RMa2dLbjdNVjhiM0wwQT09. 

Participants will receive a certificate of participation for each session they complete, which can be used for proof of professional development. Recordings of each of the weekly Wellness Wednesday sessions will be available in the KSDE Training Portal at a later date for those unable to attend live. 

  • Feb.1: Assessing School Wellness Policies with the CDC's Wellness Policy in Action Tool - Join KSDE Child Nutrition & Wellness and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) staff members in exploring the online Wellness Policy in Action Tool (WPAT). The WPAT, developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), can be used to supplement district wellness policy assessment efforts.  
  • Feb. 8: Make Every Bite Count with the DGA 2020-2025 - Learn how the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) influence nutrition standards policy development in Child nutrition programs and catch a glimpse of future initiatives aimed to improve the health and well-being of children and students participating in Child Nutrition Programs.  
  • Feb. 15: Feeding Children with Food Allergies in Child Nutrition Programs - Mealtimes for children with food allergies can be stressful for both children and adults. Join the Ellyn Satter Institute and KSDE Child Nutrition and Wellness team members to learn how to reduce stress during mealtimes while safely managing food allergies.  
  • Feb. 22: Student Substance Use in Kansas: Strategies and Best Practices from the Field - Join Kansas school nurses and KSDE Child Nutrition and Wellness team members to learn about best practices being implemented to overcome the challenges in the fight against student substance abuse in Kansas schools.
