Schools across Kansas celebrate National School Lunch Week

From promoting fresh vegetables at Garden City USD 457 to lunch and a movie at Wichita USD 259, districts across Kansas celebrated National School Lunch Week from Oct. 10-14.

At Maize USD 266, there were celebrity lunch servers, and at Hutchinson USD 308, students enjoyed a healthy take on banana splits in honor of the weeklong celebration. At Mead Middle School, Wichita USD 259, local school board members, administrators, city and county commissioners, along with other elected officials, joined students for lunch in celebration of National School Lunch Week.

National School Lunch Week, created by President John F. Kennedy in 1962, was established to promote the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life and the impact it has inside and outside of the classroom.
