2022 Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot (ASQ) window closes Sept. 20

Tuesday, Sept. 20, marks the close of the window to administer both ASQ-3 and ASQ:SE-2 to all incoming kindergarten students.

Now is a good time to consider how effectively you have been able to engage each incoming kindergarten student’s family, and whether you may be able to target your outreach to any families who have not yet completed the Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot questionnaires.

All data (including pending Family Access screenings and any child profiles where you have noted the reason for not participating) is due in the ASQ Online system by Oct. 10, 2022.

Achieving a strong participation rate in completing the questionnaires is something to celebrate – and is just one part of a strong start to the kindergarten year. How you communicate the information you gained from the ASQ back with families is key. You have the opportunity to make sure families understand that you value the expertise they have shared about their child, and feel ready to partner in supporting their learning and development.

This is a chance for teachers and staff to truly engage with families and strengthen a partnership for their child’s success. Helpful resources include:

A parent or caregiver may decide not to participate or decide not to have ASQ data shared with the state. If parents opt out, schools should still create profiles for the child and the parent in ASQ Online. Teachers should document the parent’s decision to opt out by selecting “Parent/Caregiver opted out of participating” under “Reason for not participating” on a child’s profile page in ASQ Online.

Don’t hesitate to connect with Amanda Petersen (apetersen@ksde.org) and Amy Rzadczynski (arzadczynski@ksde.org) as you complete this year’s Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot. Thank you for your work to welcome kindergarten students and their families to the 2022-2023 school year.
