U.S. Department of Energy to award $180 million to K-12 public school districts across the country to help with energy upgrades

Applications are now open for the 2024 Renew America’s School Prize, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Renew America’s Schools Team. The team was created to promote the implementation of clean energy improvements at K-12 public schools across the country. It aims to help school communities make energy upgrades that will decrease energy use and cost, improve indoor air quality, and foster healthier learning environments.

The prize will focus on school facilities that demonstrate the need for both energy improvements and financing, with a focus on supporting districts that qualify as disadvantaged and/or rural.

Eligible submissions will lower utilities costs, improve indoor air quality and foster healthier learning environments across a portfolio of 10 or more school facilities.

During Phase 1 of the competition, each winner will earn a cash prize of $300,000 and move on to Phases 2 and 3, during which they will enter and execute a cooperative agreement with DOE.

Submissions are due before 4 p.m. Thursday, June 13. For more information, click here.
