Reminder: Updated Kansas Early Learning Standards available online

The updated Kansas Early Learning Standards (KELS) were approved by both the Kansas State Board of Education and the Kansas Children’s Cabinet and Trust Fund.  These standards serve as a guide for what we want children to know and be able to do as a result of engagement with caring knowledgeable adults, evidence-based curriculum, and developmentally appropriate activities.

The updated standards can be found on the KSDE Early Childhood Page under the Kansas Early Learning Standards Update heading. Two versions are available for use. One is screen-friendly for those who prefer to use them on a device, and one is printer-friendly for those who would like to print a copy.

Distribution of printed copies across the state is in the works. Plans have been made to send printed copies to school districts, licensed child care providers, and infant/toddler providers to name a few.

The focus of the revision team has now changed to work on the development of updated training and resources to accompany the updated standards.  Stay tuned as this work continues and training and resources become available.
