University of Kansas hosting GenCyber Summer Camp for Teachers from July 24-28

The University of Kansas is hosting the 2023 GenCyber Summer Camp for Teachers from July 24-28.

This teacher camp is supported by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the National Science Foundation (NSF). It is part of the GenCyber Program.

The general goals of the program are to:

  1. Ignite, sustain and increase awareness of K-12 cybersecurity content and cybersecurity postsecondary and career opportunities for participants through this year-round engagement.
  2. Increase student diversity in college and career readiness pathways at the K-12 level.
  3. Facilitate teacher readiness within a teacher learning community to learn, develop and deliver cybersecurity content for the K-12 classroom in collaboration with other nationwide initiatives.

KU hosted the first and only GenCyber camp in 2016. Since then, the university has hosted GenCyber camps every summer (except for the summer of 2020 because of COVID-19). The upcoming camp will be an in-person camp.

The camp is open to all teachers at the K-12 level. The free event will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 24-28 at KU.

Each participant will receive a 30-hour professional certificate endorsed by the NSA and NSF.

All camp participants must reside in the United States and be K-12 teachers at a school in the United States. Space is limited and when the camp is full, names will be placed on a waiting list and notified if a spot becomes available.

Lunch and snacks will be provided during the camp.

Each participant will receive a stipend to compensate for their time and costs for participating in the camp. The stipend is $1,000 for local participants. Participants from Topeka and the Kansas City metro area will receive a $1,500 stipend. Participants from Western Kansas and other neighboring states will receive a $1,750 stipend. Those who fly in from other states will receive a $2,000 stipend.
