House, Senate bills that KSDE is following

Below is a list of House and Senate bills that the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) is following: 

  • Senate Bill 66: Sponsored by Committee on Education. This bill would enact the interstate teacher mobility compact to recognize equivalent teacher licenses across member states. http://www.kslegislature.org/li/b2023_24/measures/sb66/ 
  • Senate Bill 83: Sponsored by Committee on Education. This bill would provide additional student eligibility under the tax credit for low-income students’ scholarship program and increasing the amount of the tax credit for contributions made pursuant to such program. http://www.kslegislature.org/li/b2023_24/measures/sb83/ 
  • House Bill 2048: Sponsored by Committee on Education. This bill, which is the same as SB83, would provide additional student eligibility under the tax credit for low-income students’ scholarship program and increasing the amount of the tax credit for contributions made pursuant to such program. http://www.kslegislature.org/li/b2023_24/measures/hb2048/ 
  • House Bill 2080: Sponsored by the Committee on Education. This bill would authorize students enrolled in a virtual school to take virtual state assessments. http://www.kslegislature.org/li/b2023_24/measures/hb2080/ 
  • House Bill 2138: Sponsored by Committee on Education. This bill would create the career technical education (CTE) credential and transition incentive for employment success act to provide additional state aid to certain school districts for student who obtain CTE credentials.   • House Bill 2143: Sponsored by Committee on Education. This bill would establish requirements for school district bullying policies and procedures for investigating complaints. http://www.kslegislature.org/li/b2023_24/measures/hb2143/ 
  • House Bill 2218: Sponsored by the Committee on K-12 Education Budget. This bill would establish the Sunflower education equity act to provide education savings accounts for qualified students in Kansas. On Wednesday, Feb. 9, the Committee on K-12 Education Budget amended the bill to phase it in over four years, made a few other changes and passed it out of committee.   • House Bill 2224: Sponsored by the Committee on Education. This bill would increase the number of school days and hours that must be provided by school districts for each school year. Hearing scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Feb. 15. http://www.kslegislature.org/li/b2023_24/measures/hb2224/ 
  • House Bill 2236: Sponsored by the Committee on Education. This bill would establish parents’ right to direct the education, upbringing and moral or religious training of their children, including the right to object to harmful and inappropriate educational materials. http://www.kslegislature.org/li/b2023_24/measures/hb2236/ 
  • House Bill 2251: Sponsored by the Committee on Judiciary. This bill would authorize KSDE to contract with a private vendor to install, operate and maintain stop signal arm video recording devices. http://www.kslegislature.org/li/b2023_24/measures/hb2251/ 
  • House Bill 2278: Sponsored by the Committee on Education. This bill would require audits of safe and secure school plans for all school districts, including staggered on-site inspections.
