KSDE IT to host data breach webinar on Oct. 16

The next KSDE’s Information Technology (IT) webinar will be at 1 p.m., on Oct. 16. This month’s topic is on data breaches.

This presentation puts attendees in the driver’s seat for a simulated data breach. Attendees will be faced with a simulated data breach scenario and must make the critical decisions in addressing an ongoing breach, avoiding pitfalls, and guiding an organization through the difficult and often murky issues facing organizations during that time. The session is intended to highlight best practices in incident response and familiarize the attendees with general concepts of cyber incident response while providing a safe space to discuss incident response questions as the group navigates the scenario. This session will be tailored to IT, school administration and school board members.

Register here for the one-hour session. Advance registration is required for each event. Registrants will receive a confirmation email containing information for joining the webinar.

Mike Tassey, data security advisor for the Privacy Technical Assistance Center (PTAC), will be the presenter for the Oct. 16 webinar. He has decades of information security experience as a hacker and security expert. Tassey helps education institutions at all levels develop strong, compliant information security programs and manage risk to education data.

The KSDE IT team puts together a series of webinars hosted by experts to assist school technology directors and staff members, along with superintendents, principals and others who are interested, navigate the complex and critical practices of cybersecurity and data privacy. Presentations are not recorded, but slides will be sent to registered attendees after the presentation.
