This week, Kansas Ages & Stages Questionnaires® (ASQ) Online users received the fifth and final installment of Kansas Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot News and Updates, a guide to a successful start to the kindergarten year.
Each edition provides resources to guide Kansas educators through each step of the Ages & Stages Questionnaires® (ASQ) screening process. If you are not a Kansas ASQ Online user, you can visit agesandstages.com/ks to sign up for these emails and to view past newsletters.

Sept. 20 was the deadline to partner with families of kindergarten students to complete both the Ages & Stages Questionnaires®, Third Edition (ASQ-3), and the Ages & Stages Questionnaires®: Social-Emotional, Second Edition (ASQ:SE-2). All data for this school year’s Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot (including pending Family Access screenings and finalized manual screenings) is due in the ASQ Online system by Tuesday, Oct. 10.

Thank you for your hard work to get the 2023-2024 kindergarten year off to a strong start! Intentionally supporting students’ transition into kindergarten is linked to improved academic outcomes and teacher perceptions of children’s social skills and behavior. As we’ve visited with many schools over the past several weeks, it is clear Kansas schools are doing great things to make the most of this opportunity.
As you wrap up this year’s Snapshot, remember that all data is due in the ASQ Online system by Tuesday, Oct. 10. You can run a Pending Family Access Screening report and, if you enter screens from paper questionnaires, a Screening Status Summary report for “Screening Status / In Progress” to confirm all data is finalized for the year.
Once data is finalized in the ASQ Online system, it is submitted for the year – schools do not have an additional data upload. KSDE will compare data from ASQ Online (the ASQ-3 Screening Results and ASQ:SE-2 Screening Results reports and Child Profiles report) with Sept. 20 Count Day enrollment to calculate Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot participation rates.
KSDE’s goal is to upload analyzed district Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot data into the AMOSS authenticated application later in 2023. The sooner all schools finalize ASQ Online data, the sooner KSDE can begin that process.

KSDE will host an ASQ Tips and Questions Session from noon to 1 p.m. this Friday, Sept. 29. If you or others are new to the ASQ, the Kansas Parent Information Resource Center (KPIRC) will be offering additional Introduction to ASQ training sessions in October and November.
