Reasonable Suspicion Training for CDL Supervisors available July 19 in Topeka

Reasonable Suspicion Training for Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Supervisors will be offered for free from 9 a.m. to noon July 19 at the Kansas Association of School Boards, 1420 S.W. Arrowhead Road, in Topeka.

The Kansas State Department of Education and Kansas Highway Patrol are partnering to offer the training, which is federally mandated for all people who supervise individuals required to have a CDL as a condition of their employment.

If your school district or school bus contractor operates a school/activity bus that requires the driver to have a CDL, and you supervise that driver, you are required by federal law to have Reasonable Suspicion Training for Supervisors.

This training enables supervisors to determine if reasonable suspicion exists to require a driver to take an alcohol or drug test. This regulation requires the training to include at least 60 minutes of training on alcohol misuse and 60 minutes on controlled substances use.

This training is designed to meet the mandated training requirement. Attendees will receive a certificate of attendance. This training is a one-time training requirement.

This training is being offered free of charge to any Kansas school district employee or any Kansas school bus contractor employee. Any school district/school bus contractor employee is welcome to attend even if they have had the training in the past.
