Junction City educator named 2023 Lowell Milken Center Fellow

Farr was a member of the 2017 Kansas Teacher of the Year team

Jennifer Farr, a fifth-grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary School in Junction City, has been named a 2023 Lowell Milken Center Fellow.

Farr will travel to Fort Scott on Sunday, June 25, to begin a week of collaboration with Lowell Milken Center staff members.

The Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes is an international educational nonprofit organization.

The LMC Fellowship is a merit-based award for educators who value the importance of teaching respect and understanding through project-based learning, according to a news release from the Lowell Milken for Unsung Heroes. The fellowship unites top educators for a professional development opportunity that allows them to gain knowledge, educational resources and ongoing support that enhances their classrooms.

“Jennifer has been highly recommended by past fellows,” said Norm Conrad, LMC executive director. “Through her past visits to the LMC and her work on numerous projects, we know she will be a valuable asset to our 2023 team. We look forward to furthering our relationship with Jennifer.”

Fellows emerge prepared to develop Unsung Heroes projects with their students. Unsung Heroes projects empower students and educators to discover and share the untold stories of Unsung Heroes throughout history, according to the Lowell Milken Center. There are currently several Unsung Hero projects available for viewing at https://www.lowellmilkencenter.org/programs/projects

LMC Fellows receive a stipend, opportunities to network and collaborate with other top educators from around the world; and project development resources, including lesson guides and evaluation rubrics.

The LMC Fellowships are awarded annually in the spring to educators who have distinguished themselves in teaching understanding and respect through project-based learning. There is no formal application process for selection, although potential fellowship candidates must be active in the classroom; have enthusiasm for sharing the mission of the Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes; have exceptional educational talent as evidenced by effective instructional practices; and have national or international recognition.

Farr, a Kansas State University graduate who has been teaching at Lincoln Elementary for more than 10 years, is a 2017 Kansas Teacher of the Year finalist and serves on the Kansas LEADS and regional KTOY executive teams.
