Digital Citizenship from Cable in the Classroom
Digital Citizenship is a holistic and positive approach to helping children learn how to be safe and secure, as well as smart and effective participants in a digital world.  That means helping them understand their rights and responsibilities, recognize the benefits and risks, and realize the personal and ethical implications of their actions.  This site provides resources for educators and parents to help children become good digital citizens cuts across all curricular disciplines and includes knowldge, awareness, and skills in three key areas:  Safety & Security, Digital Literacy, and Ethics & Community.

Onguard Online

 

From the Federal Trade Commission--this site provides a great number of online resources, free print resources, and great tips for online safety, social networking, social media, communicating/mobile phones, etc.  Net Cetera is a great resource for chatting with kids about being online!  (Books are available to order for kids/parents at no cost!)

 

Cyberbullying Research Center
The Cyberbullying Research Center is dedicated to providing up-to-date information about the nature, extent, causes, and consequences of cyberbullying among adolescents.  Cyberbullying can be defined as "willful and repeated harm  inflicted through the use of computer, cell phones, and other electronic devices."

Connect Safely

 

ConnectSafely.org is the leading interactive resource on the Web for parents, teens, educators - everyone interested in youth safety on the fixed and mobile social Web.  In addition to the discussion forum, it provides tips, news, and other resources for safe, constructive use of digital media and technologies.  Along with NetFamilyNews.org, ConnectSafely is a project of the non-profit Tech Parenting Group.

 

StopBullying
On March 10, 2011 the Obama administration hosted the first federal bullying conference and unveiled this new website with free resources for schools, students and parents.

Cyberbully411
Cyberbully411 provides resources and opportunities for discussion and sharing for youth - and their parents - who have questions about or may have been targeted by online harassment.  The website was created by the non-profit Internet Solutions for Kids, Inc., with funding from the Community Technology Foundation of California.

GetNetWise
GetNetWise is a public service sponsored by internet industry corporations and public interest organizations to help ensure that interent users have safe, constructive, and educational or entertaining online experiences.  The GetNetWise coalition works to provide internet users with the resources they need to make informed decisions about their and their family's use of the interent.

Digital Citizenship

 

Published by USD 383 Technology Director, Mike Ribble, this site highlights the Digital Citizenship concept which helps teachers, technology leaders and parents to understand what students/children/technology users should know to use technology appropriately.  Digital Citizenship is more than just a teaching tool; it is a way to prepare students/technology users for a society full of technology.

 

Internet Keep Safe Coalition
This site is a coalition of 49 governor/first spouses, law enforcement, the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and other associations dedicated to helping parents, educators, and caregivers by providing tools and guidelines to promote safe internet and technology use among children.

National Center for Missing and Exploited Children
The NetSmartz Workshop is an educational safety resource from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children that uses age-appropriate, interactive activities to teach children of all ages how to stay safer on the internet.

Wired Safety

 

This is an internet safety and help group.  It provides education, assistance, and awareness on cybercrime and abuse, privacy, security, and responsible technology use.  It is also the parent group of Teenangels.org, FBI-trained teens and preteens who promote internet safety.

 

i-Safe
i-Safe is a non-profit foundation whose mission is to educate and empower youth to make their Internet experiences safe and responsible.  i-Safe is supported by a grant from the Office of Juvenice Justice and Delinquency Prevention, Office of Justice Programs, US Department of Justice.

Kan-Safe

 

This is an internet safety project through the South Central Kansas Library System.
