VISION SCHOOL REDESIGN MERCURY 7 GEMINI I GEMINI II APOLLO I APOLLO II APOLLO III NEWS VIDEOS TRAINING RESOURCES ☰
Nineteen school districts from across the state took part in Gemini II: The Space Walk Begins, which was the third round of the Kansans Can School Redesign Project. The Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) announced this cohort on Tuesday, April 17, 2018.
In February 2018, KSDE began accepting applications for the Gemini II Project and the districts were announced April 17, 2018 during the Kansas State Board of Education meeting.
This cohort launched using a Regional Training approach. A grant from the Kauffman Foundation allowed KSDE to contract with Education Elements (EE). EE helped the KSDE Redesign Flight Team build out content for the Regional Training approach; EE also helped train a cadre of Regional Trainers. Gemini I schools that requested an additional Plan Year, and Gemini II schools attended bi-monthly Regional Redesign Trainings during the 2018-2019 school year. Each school was assigned a coach, and that coach supported each school during their Launch Year (2019-2020).
In support of Kansas’ vision for education, KSDE launched the Kansans Can School Redesign Project in August 2017. Twenty-nine Kansas school districts applied for the project. Seven districts — each one representing one of the Mercury 7 astronauts — were selected. Remaining applicants had the opportunity to participate in the Gemini I Project.
With the April 2018 announcement, 47 districts and 103 schools were taking part in the school redesign project.
