Twenty-nine Kansas school districts applied for the Kansans Can Redesign Project at its inception. However, only seven could be selected. Thus, the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) developed the Gemini Project and offered the remaining districts an opportunity to take part in the project on a smaller scale. While the districts participating in the Gemini Project didn’t receive onsite coaching from KSDE staff members like the Mercury 7 districts, they did:
Twenty-one school districts accepted the challenge. Many launched with the Mercury schools in 2018-2019 while others continued to plan and launched 2019-2020.
