The Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006 is designed to improve and expand services for students enrolled in career and technical education (CTE) programs. CTE Programs prepare students for further education and careers in current or emerging employment sectors of high skill, high wage, or in-demand occupations. The courses within CTE programs include competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills of students.
Career and Technical Education reports are available on KDSE’s Data Central https://datacentral.ksde.org/cte.aspx to meet the requirements of state dissemination of actual levels of performance.
Each district that is eligible for Perkins funding (standalones and each member of a consortium) must post a link to Data Central on their district’s CTE webpage.
Comprehensive Local Needs Assessments (CLNA) are a required component of Perkins V Strengthen Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act. Needs assessments are updated at least every two years and can be found on the Kansas Board of Regents Perkins V webpage.
