TOPEKA—Jeff Baxter, the 2014 Kansas Teacher of the Year, will be presented the keys to a car at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, January 13, 2014, at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Topeka by Enterprise Rent-a-Car.
The Enterprise Foundation is providing a six-month lease through Enterprise Rent-a-Car to the state’s top educator. In addition to the lease, Baxter will receive $1,500 in ethanol gasoline from the Kansas Corn Commission.
Baxter, a high school English language arts teacher at Leavenworth High School (Leavenworth USD 453), earned the state’s top honor in November when he was chosen the 2014 Kansas Teacher of the Year from a field of 105 candidates. The prestigious award requires him to travel extensively throughout the state.
During the first half of his term as the 2014 Kansas Teacher of the Year, Baxter is expected to log more than 15,000 miles as he represents Kansas teachers at conferences, conventions and in discussions with the state’s policymakers.
Other dignitaries expected at the ceremony include the Kansas Deputy Commissioner of Education Dale M. Dennis. Also attending from Enterprise Rent-A-Car will be Maggie Root, director of Business Rental Development for the greater Kansas City area; and Kim Heuermann, business rental sales executive for the greater Kansas City area.
The 2014 Kansas Teacher of the Year regional finalists will also be in attendance.
