Forty-two Kansas high school seniors honored for outstanding educational achievement

TOPEKA – Forty-two Kansas high school seniors have earned the 2012 High Schools That Work Award of Educational Achievement. The award is presented by the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) to students at High Schools That Work (HSTW) and Technology Centers That Work (TCTW) sites who have demonstrated high academic and technical achievement and completed rigorous high school courses to prepare for their futures.

Students qualify for the award by completing a college-preparatory course of study in at least two of three subject areas – English/language arts, mathematics or science. Students must also complete a concentration in a career/technical area, mathematics/science or the humanities and meet the readiness goals in all three subject areas (reading, mathematics and science) of the HSTW assessment.

HSTW was launched in 1987 and is the largest high school improvement effort in the United States, with more than 1,100 sites in 30 states and the District of Columbia. The TCTW school improvement model was founded in 2007 and has more than 160 technology centers in 16 states. The TCTW model is based on the HSTW school improvement design, with modifications that target the specific needs of technology centers and their sending high schools.
